REFLECTIONS ON BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH (October 2021)

Who doesn't love the Michigan fall?  Beautiful foliage changing color, apple cider and donuts, football, Halloween and ultimately Thanksgiving.  There is a lot to look forward to and to be grateful for.

The beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is particularly significant to all those going through their breast cancer journey and their families and friends.  It is a time to reflect about personal experiences and to acknowledge the many individuals, families and organizations who support those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

At Shades of Pink Foundation, our philosophy is that every month is breast cancer awareness month.  We work hard to keep our community informed about the advancements in breast cancer treatment and the impact this disease has on the people we know and love.  We have a laser-like focus on providing assistance to those who are struggling financially because of a breast cancer diagnosis.

And you have been right there supporting our efforts over 16 years.

We think it is important to recognize everyone who has played a role in supporting hundreds of breast cancer patients over the years.

We started out with modest expectations – a fundraising walk at the Detroit Zoo.  A couple hundred people came the first year, and we have expanded and enhanced it every year since.   It is our signature event.

To the thousands of people who have raised funds at one walk or 16 – THANK YOU!

To all of you who have attended other fundraising events – THANK YOU!

To the sponsors who have supported us throughout the years -THANK YOU!

To the donors who have stood with us through tough times – THANK YOU!

To the volunteers who play such an important role in moving us forward – THANK YOU!

To everyone else who has donated their time and talent to our cause – THANK YOU!

“Honor to those whose words or deeds thus help us in our daily needs,” Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
