National Volunteer Week
To all our dedicated, hard-working and fabulous volunteers, this week is all about YOU! It’s National Volunteer Week, a time to recognize and thank the volunteers who support Shades of Pink Foundation’s mission to provide temporary emergency financial assistance to Southeast Michigan breast cancer patients.
Over the past 16 years, hundreds of you have given your time, talent and treasure to ensure that we continue to provide economic support and peace of mind to local families. Volunteers fill many roles. Did you know that we average about 25 fundraisers annually? Volunteers help organize and run many of those events, and they serve on various SOPF committees that help steer the organization.
We know our volunteers come to us because they have a special connection to our mission – some are breast cancer survivors, others have family members facing the challenges of cancer treatment, still others have lost relatives and friends to this terrible disease. You joined our cause, not looking for recognition, but because you wanted to be of service to others. By volunteering, we serve our community and achieve a sense of gratitude for the good things in our lives.
Each you have a story about how you found your way to SOPF and why you volunteer. We are grateful that so many of you have shared those stories with us. This week we honor you and your and personal story and ongoing commitment.
BTW, we have a couple of big events coming up and need help. Our Wild Time at the Detroit Zoo is May 22, and in the past more than 100 volunteers have been key in its success. If you can help, contact Kim Holbert (kholbert4321@gmail.com).
And the 1st Annual SOPF Charity Golf Outing takes place July 19 at Forest Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township. Maybe you could pitch in to help launch this great event. Susan Wayde is your contact (swayde1@comcast.net). Rest assured that both events are being held with strict adherence to COVID protocols.
