Partner with Shades of Pink

Shades of Pink Foundation (SOPF) was founded on the simple principle that no person should have to forego life-saving medical treatment to pay monthly bills. By working with individuals, businesses, and organizations throughout our community, we have built a comprehensive program that provides assistance to individuals diagnosed with breast cancer who are struggling financially. Focused on longevity and sustainability, SOPF is dedicated to ensuring that those in Southeast Michigan with breast cancer have access to a financial safety net so they can focus on treatment and recovery.

Each year, more than 8,000 Michigan women are diagnosed with breast cancer.  Of those diagnosed:

  • Approximately 3,100 of those are in the Detroit tri-county area.

  • Approximately 50 percent experience financial hardship due to their diagnosis.

  • The average patient with insurance pays about $1,500 monthly in out-of-pocket costs for treatment expenses.

SOPF provides temporary assistance to those experiencing financial difficulty due to their diagnosis and treatment. Established in 2005, we have awarded more than $2.3 million in grants to individuals throughout Southeastern Michigan.

Why should you become a Shades of Pink Foundation sponsor?

  • Your sponsorship or donation goes only to residents in Southeast Michigan. In recent years, we expanded our client base from the tri-county area to the nine surrounding counties.

  • Our grants cover the everyday living expenses that aren't covered by most other support organizations.

  • Grant applications are reviewed and approved promptly. Payment is made directly to the creditor.

  • By becoming a sponsor, you improve the financial circumstances of our family members, friends, and neighbors, whose lives are impacted by the burden of a breast cancer diagnosis.

We have a few major fundraising events annually. Our signature event - A Walk at the Zoo - is held each spring and is attended by over 1,000 survivors and their families, friends and supporters. Nine, Wine, and Dine, a great outing for women golfers, takes place at Lincoln Hills Golf Course in Birmingham each fall. And we get great support from the men who, on event day, help out to ensure our guests have a great time. We’ve been able to accommodate more participants each year, and this is becoming a much anticipated event. We also host an Annual Comedy Event in the fall, which honors our social workers, nurses, nurse navigators, patient navigators, office managers, and other key individuals who help us identify and assist breast cancer patients in need. This evening of laughter and appreciation is held at The Community House in Birmingham.
