National Volunteer Week – Celebrating Service

Today marks the beginning of National Volunteer Week. Observed annually during the third week of April, this weeklong celebration is an opportunity to recognize and thank volunteers who lend their time, talent, voice and resources to make a difference in our communities. The theme for this year’s National Volunteer Week is Celebrate Service – an opportunity to shine a light on the people and causes that inspire us to serve. Volunteerism empowers individuals to find their purpose, to take their passion and turn it into meaningful change.

Volunteers are a critical component of our success here at Shades of Pink Foundation (SOPF) and the force behind our ability to provide temporary financial assistance to breast cancer patients undergoing treatment across Southeast Michigan.

Volunteerism and service have always been driving forces in my life, and I am deeply proud to serve as volunteer coordinator on SOPF’s Board of Directors. It is my honor to work alongside our passionate volunteers at SOPF events and third-party fundraisers.

We are gearing up for our signature fundraising event, SOPF A Walk at the Zoo, on April 27. This event requires 100+ volunteers to ensure it runs smoothly, and we are grateful that our faithful stewards have once again answered the call to provide support.

This fall we will host Nine, Wine and Dine (a really fun ladies golf outing) on September 13 and our Annual Comedy Event - In Appreciation of Our Referral Partners on October 1. We welcome your participation at these events and I invite you to fill out our Volunteer Interest Form.

On behalf of our entire organization, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to SOPF’s volunteer family who generously give back through their service. You are helping to build stronger communities. We celebrate you this week and all year long!

Every individual has the power to make a difference.

With appreciation,

Naina Desai
