Beyond October: Sharing important breast cancer resources

As Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, we want to share breast cancer resources provided by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. This information is suitable for previvors, survivors, thrivers, and anyone who wants to learn more:

  • Check out Breast Cancer in Young Adults to access videos and answers to frequently asked questions.

  • Metastatic Cancer offers answers to frequently asked questions about topics related to metastatic cancer.

  • Young Survival Coalition works to strengthen the community, address unique needs, amplify voices, and improve the quality of life of young adults affected by breast cancer. They offer virtual support groups, educational resources, and more.

  • Living Beyond Breast Cancer| LBBC offers resources, real stories, on-demand emotional, practical, and evidence-based content that is meaningful to those newly diagnosed, in treatment, post-treatment, and living with metastatic disease.

  • FORCE - Facing Hereditary Cancer Empowered shares educational information, support, and research to improve the lives of individuals and families facing hereditary cancer.

  • Imerman Angels offers free, personalized one-on-one cancer support for cancer fighters, survivors, previvors, and caregivers.

And if you’ve just been diagnosed with breast cancer, here is a recent article by Elizabeth Millard, highlighting the factors that might go into how long you need to take off for treatment and recovery. The average amount of time that women with breast cancer in the U.S. take off work is about seven months after receiving their diagnosis, according to a research review in the Journal of Cancer Survivorship.
