Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast Cancer Awareness Month, held in October every year, aims to promote screening and prevention of the disease, which affects one in eight women in the United States every year and 2.3 million women worldwide. Although breast cancer is much more common in women, breast cancer affects men, too.

Shades of Pink Foundation (SOPF) works tirelessly year-round to support women and men going through breast cancer treatment, but October is a special month for us. Our board feels strongly that we offer multiple ways people can participate in Breast Cancer Awareness Month, raising both funds and recognition.

The foundation’s intentional series of events throughout the month of October is an inclusive opportunity for everyone to support SOPF’s mission of reducing financial stress for those undergoing breast cancer treatment across Southeast Michigan in a way that they connect with and feel most comfortable. Click here to learn more about our 3rd Annual Pars Fore Pink Golf Outing at the Birmingham Country Club on October 2, Think Pink Sip & Shops at J.McLaughlin (Grosse Point and Troy locations) on October 5, and 2nd Annual Comedy Event – In Appreciation of Our Referral Partners at The Community House on October 11.

We have also teamed up with Sticker Blitz this October to ensure individuals undergoing breast cancer treatment, survivors and their families feel the support of the community during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. With community support, together we plan to paint the town pink.

Sticker Blitz is donating thousands of SOPF pink ribbon stickers. In turn, the stickers can be picked up, while supplies last, beginning Oct. 1, at participating restaurants and retailers across the region at no cost. Pick-up occurs during normal business hours for each participant, respectively. SOPF, Sticker Blitz and the participating retailers encourage community members to display the pink ribbon stickers proudly throughout the month, on cars, storefronts, water bottles, toolboxes and more, to show breast cancer patients and survivors community support. To those battling breast cancer, each pink ribbon is a twinkle of hope and solidarity–a tangible affirmation of the community’s unwavering support, reminding them that they are not alone in their journey. Every ribbon serves as both an emblem of our collective commitment to help alleviate financial burdens and a testament to the enduring spirit of those affected by breast cancer.

We are also proud to recognize our partners who are raising funds and recognition on our behalf by holding innovative community fundraisers all month long. If you are interested in hosting a third-party fundraiser during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, please email Nina Googasian at executiveadministrator@shadesofpinkfoundation.org.

Thank you to our donors, sponsors, volunteers and third-party supporters for your unwavering commitment to the foundation and those we serve during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and throughout the year.

With appreciation,

Mary Pat Meyers
